Week 3: General Meetings

This week, I mainly focused on holding meetings with Chris Lo, Greg P. and David DH. in which I asked for their opinions about the social media channels, and what we could be doing more of. In these meetings, I got the general opinion that they would like to focus more on YouTube.

  • YouTube/Developer Shorts
  • ‘Microwave videos’ -> Greg does these videos and cut them up into two minute video segments where we focus on graphs and metrics vs. other aspects of the presentation
  • Related lists for topics of YouTube videos to group them together- putting them into a stream, creating a subchannel for ECL or ECL Watch
  • Maybe document these for the website to try and group things together

Notes from the 1:1 Meeting with David @ 6/9/2023

  • Playlists are good

  • NLP engine marketing and videos- This is what he does

  • Being prepared for an audience- Doesn't feel like we are prepared for an audience

  • To have videos that also are organized and easily found

  • He notes that one of the main problems is that the HPCC Website is not the greatest at finding and organizing videos- He really wants to make this easier

  • He also wants an announcements page on the website where it doesn’t look the same- He says this is a main issue in HPCC Systems because he says it is very corporate, but needs to stand out a bit more and appear active and dynamic

  • Visualtexts.org- His webpage

  • On the website, he wants to make the blog articles very visible when people enter the website

  • When a new blog is available, have it on the announcements page or a tab where it is advertising this

  • Around an article a week about new topics

  • He says that we are focusing too much on just putting stuff out there without fully advertising it correctly- we need to make sure putting it up front and center

  • A banner with the latest things going on with blogs, videos, events, etc. -> This will generate more interest

  • Live articles are important! We should present as less corporate and more active and human-orientated

  • We should have a banner with a ‘What is Happening Today’ and a ‘News’ page!

  • This has made a significant difference with his engagement and views

  • He says that you shouldn’t scroll to see it, and it should instead be available quickly and visibly

  • Having articles written about stuff that comes out- If a new video comes out, write a short blog (1-2 paragraphs) about it to then cycle videos and blogs to increase engagement

  • He also wants to have Playlists for YouTube and to better organize what is there and to make it less chaotic

  • Look at the tutorial videos and see if we need to change some of the titles- Can we reorder them, e.g., Tutorial 1, Tutorial 2...

  • It would be good to put them in a playlist, but also change the titles to group them together

  • This would simplify the experience for users and increase engagement

  • For the website, make sure these videos and tutorials should be in a visible place on the website for people to find

  • Extremely Important Tip: He goes into Facebook groups, looks where they are, he posts the post within these Facebook groups and puts it there with a paragraph to describe it... now, he is gaining even more traffic to his website using social media platforms

  • Go and identify key social media groups on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn!

  • We also need to share everything internally to make sure people are viewing what we are producing within the company-> We can include this through newsletters and make sure to blast the messaging everywhere that we can.

  • Try to incentivize people who come up with new things and ideas to talk about them

  • It should not be hard to get to, but right now it is! He says we are so worried about the technology and being corporate rather than focusing on the actual users of the platform. We should make it more accessible for them.

  • Inventory all the YouTube and find out what we have and where is it

  • Important Idea: Do we have a comparison video that we have made to compare Hadoop or competition

Notes from the 1:1 Meeting with Christopher Lo @ 6/8/2023

  • Twitter: Twitter is a hot mess- not sure if it’s worth spending time on that

  • YouTube: Thinks that it’s very cool and he likes the idea of having the playlist, and being able to jump into shorter videos- click out snippets of long videos into YouTube shorts

  • YouTube shorts of vital information

  • ECL Watch video to break up into a bunch of shorts

  • Fun facts about the system and what you can do with it!

  • Create a steady YouTube short system- around 3 times a week (2-3 weeks of bombarding)- Chris feels like this would solidify YouTube engagement

  • Facebook: Not sure if Facebook is the platform to use- Painful to get views and engagement isn’t applicable to business

  • LinkedIn: LinkedIn is good, tie into YouTube project to get double benefits and redirect people and views and suggesting a campaign

  • Organizing the videos in the YouTube playlist and having longer talks broken up a bit- Also says that the names of the videos are kind of obscure and confusing

  • Instagram: Tie the Instagram reels with YouTube shorts to double duty it and knock it out. He is a little bit nervous about putting out regular content but says that our content for Instagram should have very good visuals and images rather than text based.

  • A good reference: Nerdist Instagram for information on how they do their Instagram reels- Very short messaging, simply visual

  • Another good reference: Modustrial Maker

  • Adding captions to videos and Instagram- It displays accessibility

  • He also says that we should make the messaging concise since people have short attention spans.

He would advise Blog authors to give a sentence on ‘Why should I care’ as a summary message to market.
